Basic Beliefs
Source of Authority- Our rule of faith and practice is the Old and New Testament, the Holy Bible. It is composed of the 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. These books testify of Jesus Christ, the only Savior of the world. Luke 24:44, 2 Peter 3:15-16, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21
Sovereign- God is sovereign. He is the God Most High, King of Kings and Lord of lords. He is eternal, holy, good, perfect, all-knowing, all-powerful, just, and true. Along with these attributes, God is love and light. History is His Story. He has been writing the story of redemption across the pages of time. Although many deny and disobey Him, He is still God and has made a way for man to be saved and have a restored relationship with Him. 1 Timothy 6:14-16, 1 John 1:5, 1 John 4:16, John 17:3, 1 Thessalonians 1:9, 1 John 5:20, Luke 12:7, 1 Timothy 1:17, John 1:18
Savior- Jesus Christ, the second person of the Godhead, is the only Savior of mankind. He alone has the ability and authority to forgive sins. He is Creator of the Universe and God in the flesh who was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a sacrificial death on the cross, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day being victorious over death, hell, and the grave. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father making intercession for man and awaiting His second return. He alone can make you right with God. John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15-17, John 1:14, John 3:16-18, John 14:6
Salvation- Man is dead in trespasses and sins and has no ability to save himself. There is no amount of good works he can do in order to obtain a right standing with God. God abhors man’s self-righteous endeavors to get right with Him. God’s standard of righteousness is Jesus Christ; therefore, man must repent of his sins and turn by faith to Jesus for the salvation of his soul. How do you know you are saved? Have you been convicted of your sins? Have you felt the weight and burden of sins upon your heart? Have you found yourself trembling before Almighty God? Once you turn to Christ through the calling and drawing power of the Holy Spirit, the evidence of salvation is peace in the heart and the new beginning of a changed life. Ephesians 2:1-10, Romans 5:1-5, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, John 3:6
Sanctification- Once you are saved, God begins conforming your life into the image of Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit and Word of God. You will be changed and changing throughout the rest of your life. The first step in following Jesus is to join a local body of believers and make a public declaration of faith through baptism. In a community of faith, one will learn to love God and other brothers and sisters in Christ. The local church was established by Jesus Christ to carry out His ordinances (Baptism and Lord’s Supper) and to advance His kingdom on the earth. 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Ephesians 1:4, Proverbs 4:18, 1 Corinthians 1:1-2, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Galatians 5:19-23, Romans 8:29-30
Second Coming- The end of the world is approaching and Jesus Christ is coming again. Will you prepare to meet you Maker? 1 Peter 4:7, Hebrews 1:10-12, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, Matthew 24:35, 2 Peter 3:2-7, Revelation 22:12-21
